At Birch, every member of the team shares a passion for excellence — both in the way we care for vehicles and how we connect with clients. For Zaak Andrews, that passion is rooted in a lifelong fascination with cars, craftsmanship, and the culture that surrounds them.

With ten years of experience across automotive sales, marketing, and media, Zaak’s background brings an invaluable perspective to Birch. From producing award-winning campaigns to managing the logistics of high-end vehicle storage, his focus is on precision, communication, and the simple pleasure of being around great cars.

Here, he shares insights into his work, philosophy, and the cars he’d most like to see under Birch’s care.

What first drew you to Birch, and what do you enjoy most about being part of the team?

The whole concept of Birch immediately resonated with me. As a lifelong car enthusiast — and hopefully a future collector — I could see the importance of doing this properly. The innovation behind the system was a huge draw; I’ve never seen anything like it. I also value genuine, authentic car care, and being able to deliver that daily is incredibly rewarding. Plus, I’ll never tire of being surrounded by exceptional cars.

Describe your role at Birch — what does a typical day look like for you?

No two days are ever the same — which is part of the excitement of working in a growing business. My day might involve checking cars in or out, monitoring those that have been with us longer, drafting content, planning logistics, capturing photography or video, solving technical issues, and ensuring that as a team we represent the Birch brand to the highest standard. I think it’s vital that our clients — and future clients — see we live and breathe quality. When they feel that authenticity, trust follows naturally.

Birch is known for precision and care. How do you personally define attention to detail?

Attention to detail starts with attention, full stop. I’ve always been a perfectionist — I struggle to do anything halfway. My work ethic pushes me to leave no stone unturned. The more you train yourself to be fully present and observant, the fewer mistakes you make. I use all five senses in my work, because true attention to detail is about being completely aware of your environment and the task in front of you.

What’s one piece of advice you’d give to anyone looking to store a vehicle long-term?

Plan it properly and choose your facility wisely. A few years ago, I would likely have taken the naive approached and looked for the cheapest or closest option — but I’ve since seen what poor storage can do to a car. If your vehicle has value, sentiment or significance, it deserves the right environment and the right people around it. Vehicle storage isn’t just parking; it’s preservation.

Outside of work, what fuels your passion — motorsport, restoration, travel, or something unexpected?

Cars are at the heart of everything I do — most weekends involve a drive, even if it’s just to the shops. Beyond that, I’m a keen runner, mountain biker, and an unashamed foodie. Combine any of those with travel or a new location, and I’m in my element.

Birch has a strong link with racing through Tom Chilton. How does that motorsport connection influence the way you and the team work?

I’ve always had a connection to grassroots motorsport in all sorts of capacities — from sidecar grasstrack racing to spectating at banger events — so I understand the importance of teamwork and organisation. Having Tom involved brings an extra layer of precision; it’s about making every inch and every second count.

What’s the most rewarding part of seeing a client’s car arrive — or leave — Birch’s facility?

When a car arrives, it’s rewarding to know the client has entrusted us with something deeply valuable. These vehicles often represent years of passion and effort, so that trust means a lot. When a car leaves, it’s equally satisfying to see how smooth and convenient the process is for our clients. We make it simple, thorough, and seamless — and you can feel their relief when it all goes perfectly.

Choose ten cars that you'd like in your personal collection stored at Birch.

Which of these cars would you like to take out to enjoy an autumn weekend?

For an autumn weekend, it would have to be the Lamborghini Huracán. It’s four-wheel drive, sounds incredible, and is compact enough to use wherever you need to go. It’s one of the few cars in that list I wouldn’t mind getting a little dirty — it’s made for it.

Finally, describe Birch in three words — and tell us why you chose them.

Premium. Trustworthy. Innovative. Birch is a premium brand that clients can trust because we continue to lead with innovation. Those three words define who we are — and they’ll continue to guide everything we do.
